An Interview with Rachita Saxena

#1 Who are you and What got you into traveling?

Hi, I am Rachita Saxena, a travel blogger based out of New Delhi. I did my Bachelor’s in Information Technology from VIT, Vellore and worked three years in Deloitte, Hyderabad.

My family traveled a lot when I was a kid, especially during the holidays, so I always loved traveling. And then reading novels and watching movies further inspired me to travel far and wide to explore the world. From as long as I can remember, I have wanted to go to Disneyland and since then, my travel bucket list has just expanded.

#2 What is your favourite Himalayan destination and Why ?

My favorite Himalayan destination is Bir Billing because that was the first time i fell in love with a  mountain sunset. I am more of a beach person but I spent a month in Bir this September and it was a pleasant change. In Bir, I would just walk around and head to the sunset point everyday and enjoy the quiet and solitude here.

But that’s not all, the Rajgundha trek here was really an eye opener and the first time when I could see Milky Way with naked eyes. Plus the paragliding experience in Bir was amazing so it is my favorite place till now. Basically, it is all the little and big things which happened here which has made Bir my favorite Himalayan destination till now.

#3 What sort of a traveler are you ?

I wouldn’t really term myself as a specific traveler but I am more into budget traveling. But in terms of landscapes, I tend to choose all. I love spending time in the beaches or the mountains and even love exploring historical and culturally rich places.

Also, I believe in exploring a place and experiencing a culture so I have never cared if I stay in a hut or a resort. And I don’t believe that it is the destination which only matters, I feel journey is as important if not more.

#4 What’s your best and worst experience in the Himalayas ?

Well, I don’t really ponder upon negative experiences so I don’t really have any single worst experience as such. I have been stuck in the Himalayas a couple of times due to landslides but it has never really bothered me. So, I really don’t have a worst experience in the Himalayas.

On the other hand, I have several amazing experiences in the Himalayas in places like Dalhousie, Kasol, Tirthan Valley, etc. But my best experience has to be my 1-month stay in Bir during which i made numerous friends and explored a lot. I particularly loved the night sky in Rajgundha as I could see stars, planets, and the milky way with my naked eyes.

Also, Rajgundha is still not as popular as other Himalayan destinations so I loved interacting with the locals and just walking around the hills. It was a unique experience for me to stay and volunteer in Bir and just roam around in the evenings with new people every day.

#5 What tip would you like to give to fellow travellers?

Don’t give up on your dreams.  If you like traveling then that doesn’t mean you have to choose between your life, job or traveling. You can actually do it all together, you just need to plan properly. So, go and travel and learn everything that this  world has to offer you.

  1. Ohh I love the Himalayas! I lived in Delhi for a few months and had to escape the city into the mountains every couple of weeks. My favorite is Chopta but I’ve never been Bir Billing! I do miss India lots and hopefully, I’ll visit there when I go next!

  2. Wonderful interview and a great affirmation that you can chase your dreams no matter what. I absolutely agree that you don’t have to give anything up to travel and that you can work and travel at the same time. That is exactly what I do and I still manage to see the world. Maybe not as much as I would like to but I can still do it.

The Himalayas look stunning but of course it is. I love her perspective on things. Yeah, a couple of landslides, no big deal! LOL I on the other hand would be freaking out. One day I shall make it there!

    1. That is true Amy.

Hahaha, well after a while you get used to the delays and the obstacles so landslides don’t seem like a big deal😄

I hope you visit the Himalayas soon too. 🙂

  3. I’ve never been to the Himalayas, and I’m not much of a mountain person. But if a beach person like Rachita can be won over, I think I should take a closer look. Clear night skies are definitely a plus.

  4. The Himalayas look really interesting. It is a great place to start your travel with. I have always been the mountain level lover and I form a deep connection with the Himalayas. This one is a great interview and it is great to see that you can travel as well as work. You show the world that you do not have to miss things to travel.

  5. I’ve never been to the Himalayas. Every post I read and all of the amazing pictures make me want to visit though! I’ll have to see if I can fit it into my plans

  6. I enjoyed reading this interview with Rachita, so interesting and so inspiring! I would love to explore the Himalayas one day. I particularly like when she says that it’s ll a matter of finding the right balance and plan properly, that’s what I always try to do when juggling between travels and work 🙂
